You can almost expect some type of unique event taking place almost every weekend somewhere in the County. These events may mostly be just one day long but it offers something for the entire family. From learning the history of the County to artistic events to fitness, there's some things you have to put on your calendars.
Fort McCoy Armed Forces Day Open House
Personalized dog tags? Find them at Fort McCoy’s Armed Forces Day Open House. Interactive activities, military equipment displays and demos, and camouflage face painting. Add tours and refreshments, and you’re in for a treat. Held in May at Fort McCoy.
Monroe County Dairy Breakfast
Celebrate Wisconsin’s dairy industry at the Monroe County Dairy Breakfast. More than you can imagine at one breakfast! Plus educational displays, farm tours, horse drawn wagon rides, and tons of fun. Held the first Saturday in June.
Americana in the Park in Tomah
Americana music in the Park is a monthly music festival in Tomah, WI that showcases bands and singer songwriters from Western Wisconsin and beyond. Performers earn tips and sell their CDs and merchandise at the event. Average crowd ranges from 300 to 500.
Our event supports local area organizations by providing them funding opportunities and gives exposure to budding music artists. There are kids games, a caricature artist, yard games for adults and food and drinks! BYO beer and wine is allowed in the park during performances only with moderation. (plastic containers please)
Concerts in the Park in Sparta
Every Wednesday, from June through August, bands entertain huge crowds at Evans-Bosshard Park in Tomah. Concerts are free, compliments of many area sponsors, and features bands with a variety of musical tastes covering many different formats and tastes.
4th of July Parade
The annual 4th of July celebration in Tomah has grown over the years, highlighted by the large Parade. Many entries from all over western Wisconsin take part in front of huge crowds who fill the sidewalks throughout the downtown area.
Downtown Thursday Nights in Tomah
Every Thursday, for 6 weeks starting on July 4th, enjoy music downtown right on Superior Avenue. There will be a Kid's Zone and plenty of music, food and refreshments. Great way to celebrate the summer in Tomah!
Top pullers from the United States and Canada compete in the rip-roaring Budweiser Dairyland Super National Truck & Tractor Pull slated for the last weekend in June each year at Tomah’s Recreation Park. The event features two pull tracks.
Dainty pink blossoms in the shape of a crane’s head will fill the cranberry marshes when Warrens celebrates Cranberry Blossom Day in late June. Free tours are offered at the Wetherby Cranberry Company marsh. The Wisconsin Cranberry Discovery Center has activities and treats all day. Check out their delicious cranberry ice-cream.
The Monroe County Fair runs the last weekend in July each year. It features grandstand entertainment and activities, 4-H & open class exhibits, arts & crafts, a carnival and lots of fun.
Art Outdoors at the Wegner Grotto
In August, the Wegner Grotto County Park will host "Art Outdoors". This free event includes exploring one of Wisconsin's fascinating art environments, the Wegner Grotto, and creating art in the outdoors. Three art activities will be available to visitors - Outdoor painting, clay sculpturing and mosaic making. Instructors will be on hand and open to all skill and age levels.
Cataract Sportsmens Club Field Day
The Cataract Sportsmen's Club Field Day is held annually the Sunday after Labor Day. Breakfast is served beginning at 6:30 a.m. The affair includes shooting and archery contests, kids’ games, bingo, knapping demonstrations and educational displays. Charcoal chicken is on the menu.
The Rails to Trails Marathon takes place each year in October in Norwalk. It includes a full marathon, ½ marathon, 5K, and fun run—along the Elroy-Sparta Bike Trail. It is a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon.
Sparta Holiday Parade and Lights
Come enjoy a beautiful holiday light show located on the banks of the La Crosse River. A community project with hundreds of volunteers puts together a truly magical Christmas Lights show every year. With plenty of activities and opening ceremonies including caroling and a parade this is a must see small town holiday festival that you will want to come back for year after year! Don't forget to see Santa!
Tomah Holiday Parade and Lights
Each year downtown Tomah is home to the annual Holiday Parade. Brightly lit floats featuring businesses and civic organizations. Great way to kick off the holiday season! Then head to Winnebago Park for the Annual Tomah Rotary Holiday Lights!
